I'm reading this (semi-fictional) account by Dave Eggers about the flight of Sudanese villagers to Ethiopia in the early 90s. Many of those fleeing were unaccompanied minors who experienced all kinds of horrors along the way--starvation, lions, soldiers, crocodiles. These children had no choice but to press on, without parents or protection.
I can't think of any two words more sad than "dying boy."
