My father died of lung cancer in late 1970, when I was two. I have almost no memory of him. In some ways, that's a good thing.
But today searching the Web, I found repeated references to him, because of artwork he did for Impulse, a record label that recorded jazz greats John Coltrane and Charles Mingus. All of the album covers he designed are carefully catalogued. One of them is featured in a museum collection. And one of them is mentioned in a recent book, The Greatest Album Covers of All Time. I felt so proud and glad to know that, even though he predeceased the Web by 25 years, he isn't completely forgotten.
