Currently Listening To: Sigh No More, Mumford & Sons

Thanks to Natalie, a church-van driving, speeding ticket-prone Berea College professor who visited Chez 500Jerk one fun evening this past summer, I'm listening to and loving Sigh No More, by Mumford & Sons.

Holy smokes, I love the sound of this gritty, layered album.  It does have a doleful, Irish dirge-like quality, so my elementary school-age kids in no way share the Mumford love.  "Noooooo," they wail from the backseat, united only by common dislike.  "Not Mumford & Sons again!  WHAT? The Avett Brothers?  Please, please, Mom, turn back on that Star 102.1 sexist auto-tuned techno-crap."

Really, they say that.

So, I've taken to hanging out late at night, listening to Sigh No More in my car alone:  "Love, it will not dismay, betray, or enslave you, it will set you free. Be more like the man you were made to be.

LOVE it.

I was lead to them this summer too. Roll Away Your Stone is what I am into most. Have you heard of Laura Marling? Maybe so as she was the girlfriend of one of the Mumford guys.
Alas I Cannot Swim is her's.

Music is so key as we hold onto who we really are in the midst of momhood et al., don't you think?

I am so glad you are enjoying Mumford & Sons as much as I do! I just want to clarify that I was not driving a "church-van" - I would certainly have received a ticket to hell while I was receiving my ticket for speeding in the great city of Knoxville! Thank you for a wonderful time at Chez 500Jerk....ahhh, the memories!
