We are considering buying a piano. Although I came to loathe piano lessons as a child and disliked practicing even more (sorry, Mom), I feel parentally obliged to enrich my children's lives through exposure to music. And The Dixie Chicks and Dan Zanes probably don't cut it. So my husband and I are scouring the far reaches of East Tennessee to find a reasonably priced used piano. We've found a battered 98 year-old Steinway that may meet our needs.
Will the end result be worth the herculean struggle of buying, moving, tuning, and arguing with my kids about practicing the piano? Given that an electric guitar is the only instrument my five year-old wants to play, I seriously doubt it.
