What I'm Reading . . . Unaccustomed Earth

I just started reading Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri last night, a (so far) tranquil domestic follow-up to the savagery of The Road.

I've read an awful lot about fictional Bengali and Indian immigrants in recent years, and so in reading Unaccustomed Earth, I feel like I'm reading a familiar story. Maybe too familiar. I may need to put this away until my synapses fray a bit further.

I sense a Cormac McCarthy obsession beginning.

Someday, will you post a top ten list? I only ask because you seem like one of those people who reads a book every two days or so, and I'm one of those people who has somehow gotten too lazy to read, and I think I could benefit from your literary proverbial-ant-type diligence in a proverbial-grasshopper-type way!

I also started drooling when I read your recent recipe list. I'm trying to start cooking and gardening while I'm on a leave of absence from teaching, but I'm starting with the monthly RealSimple recipes. Baby steps.

Have you read McCarthy's Sutree? It's hilarious!!! As per usual, Cormak makes you work, but he rewards you magnificently!

The Road was an Oprah Book Club pick. Google Oprah The Road and it will lead you to a link on her website with interview clips with her interview with Cormack, study questions & articles about The Road and science. It's worth checking out!

p.s. I'd be interested in your top 10 list, too.
