My extremely verbal 19 year-old nephew, "Cuzzin' Dan," is in charge of the 500Jerk kids this first week of summer. A kickball apparently got loose in the lake today, resulting in a kayak mishap, a ruined phone (his), and the following e-mail chatter:

Hey Aunt 500Jerk,
I fell in the lake. I tried to call using your house phone to let you know that you can't reach my cell phone, but your house phones aren't placing calls (I don't know why). If you try calling your house phone, it may be that it will take calls, but it won't let me call out. The story of how I fell in is a bit epic, but I am in the process of hunting down the kids for lunch and thus, occupied.
I am in the process of trying to get [Cuzzin’] Catherine to call you so that you know what is going on, but now that my phone doesn't work, I think the world stopped working too.
Other than my unintentional swimming, all is well here.
